Senior Unix Systems Administrator
ROLE
The role of the Senior Unix System Administrator will be to manage, operate, optimise and maintain all Unix/Linux based systems, servers and applications with a view to delivering the highest levels of availability, security and cost effectiveness. The incumbent will also manage 200+ servers in a 24x7 data center, consistent with the company’s rapid growth, industry best practices and regulatory requirements. The individual will also oversee the migration of all applications and services to a new, state-of-the-art cloud platform. |

FUNCTIONS |
|
 |
Develop and meet goals, targets and KPIs for the Unix/Linux systems team to satisfy company and client requirements and corporate objectives, and comply with best practices. |
 |
Ensure that all configuration, management and maintenance tasks for Unix systems, including networks, security, computation & storage resources, and applications are carried out in a timely fashion and without errors. |
 |
Implement and test configurations, backup/restore procedures, system releases and vendor patches; monitor, test and fine-tune system and service performance; |
 |
Anticipate, mitigate, troubleshoot and resolve Unix/Linux hardware, software, service and application problems. |
 |
Architect and migrate all Unix/Linux systems and services to a new cloud platform with no loss of service continuity. |
 |
Implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure Unix/Linux system security. |
 |
Perform regular Unix server/database/security/service and transaction audits to identify and mitigate risks; perform system failure analysis and recovery, ensure business continuity |

Implement processes to improve efficiency, reliability, performance. |
 |
Manage Linux/Unix projects, resources and budget, including capacity and resource planning. |
 |
Remain informed on changing laws, trends, and issues including emerging technologies and best practices; advise, counsel and educate management teams. Create reports in response to business and client needs. |
 |
Maintain a high degree of transparency on systems and services, in particular by implementing and scaling automatic monitoring, healing and notification systems. |
 |
Develop, document, and maintain Unix/Linux system training materials and systems documentation for compliance, education, disaster recovery and training. |
 |
Manage and guide the on-site and remote Unix teams. |

REQUIREMENTS |
|
 |
Seven to ten years` hands-on experience in a Unix systems administration role in a high-volume or service-provider environment, dealing with mail, DNS, web, AAA, storage, open source xNix database systems, backup and security. |
 |
Advanced knowledge related to installing, configuring and troubleshooting Unix / Linux servers, hardware, software, networks and clusters, enterprise-grade SAN, open-source management and automation applications and performance monitoring tools. High to expert level proficiency in low-level/command-line management of servers, operating system and network resource optimization, bridging & bonding. Experience with Brocade or equivalent fibre channel and high capacity storage networks is an asset. Must have at least 2 years experience in an environment using a high degree of virtualization and systems automation. |

Advanced technical knowledge of service management, load-balancers, TCP/IP, Linux, Apache and SANs, virtualization, cloud computing, network monitoring and management, shell scripting, SQL, databases, firewall management and database administration and optimization. |
 |
Excellent attention to detail; extremely well organised, results-oriented, sense of urgency; highly service/client focussed. Able to deal effectively with peers, clients, vendors and manage staff. |
 |
Good verbal and written communication skills. |
 |
Education: Bachelor’s degree Computer science or related field; equivalent qualifications. |
