| While Pathway works to providing a safe internet experience for its customers, there are further measures to take that will decrease the chance of identity theft and increase security. |
| Tips from Pathway for Being Safe on the Internet: |
| Beware of emails asking for personal information. All of the important businesses you deal with online will already have your personal information on file. Use your best judgement when you are asked for information, and check to make sure that you know who is asking, what they are asking for, and why they are asking. If you ever suspect you are not dealing with the company in question, contact a representative directly.

| Install and maintain anti-virus software. Computer viruses can steal or corrupt your data. An anti-virus program on all of your computers will provide a solid defense. Make sure your anti-virus is up-to-date. |
| Install and maintain anti-spyware software. Just like viruses, spyware can steal or corrupt your data. Malicious software will also slow down the performance of your computer as it runs in the background. A good anti-spyware program is worth the investment. Make sure it is kept up-to-date.
|
| Install operating system updates. Your operating system, as well as the software that you use on it, can have security gaps. Updating will close these holes and provide you with better protection. Whenever possible set your software and operating system to check for updates, or automatically update on your behalf. Alternatively, you can download and install any updates yourself, regularly.
|
| Use spam filters. Spam is not only a drain on your time and money, but can also contain malicious software like spyware and viruses. A good spam filter will reduce these problems and will help keep your system from ever seeing a virus. If you use your own filter, be sure to check for updates. |
