Dry Loops

With a DSL connection, the Internet and phone service are "bundled" together on the same phone line. Installation of a dry loop allows us to "unbundle" the DSL Internet access from the phone line in order to provide a data-only line to users who solely wish to obtain an Internet connection.

There is no dial tone on such line and phone calls cannot be made to or from it. A dry loop is much less expensive than a standard telephone line, and Pathway takes care of all aspects of the setup, migration and management of your service¹.

Who may need a dry loop?

Dry loops are generally installed for users who have a DSL Internet connection and wish to replace their existing phone line with a VoIP service. Installing a dry loop ensures that the Internet connection remains active after the phone number is transferred to your VoIP provider.

If you plan to subscribe to Pathway’s VoIP services or SURFTALK Bundles, and wish to transfer the phone number associated with your DSL Internet connection, you will need a dry loop². Simply select the “Dry Loop” option in the online form and we will take care of the rest.
