Inspirational Reports
For some Penguins, the conference was a life-changing experience. Violet Elder of Michigan spoke for many: What we had in Toronto this year was incredible, and I personally am not the same person as the one who left this house on Friday. Millard Elder, her husband, echoed those sentiments. Longtime St. Louis Penguin Kecia LiCausi offered a perspective as one of a few Penguins who have attended all four conferences to date. And newcomer Julie Wobbe of Toronto was motivated to write after reading Violet’s post.

Race Reports
From award-winners to DNFs, Penguins took over the Burlington Rock ‘n’ Roll Canada Races. Some achieved PRs (aka Personal Records) such as Cheryl Link of Ohio, Maureen Pecknold of Toronto, Julia Kim of Massachusetts and Daniel Wellner of New York. Ken Myers of San Diego even qualified for the 2003 Boston Marathon! For some Penguins, like Natasha Lemire-Blair and Tracy Cross of Toronto, this was their first half-marathon (or even first race!) For Carlene Paquette of Kanata, Ont., and Ken Johnson of Illinois, this was the final entry of their half-marathon journals. Finally, it wouldn’t be a Penguin race without Penguin pacers. David Gegear of London, Ont., and Heather Stewart of Toronto paced Nancy Toby of Virginia to a PR! In the latter part of the race, Lauren Clark of Ohio joined them, too! Linda Bearss of Michigan also found a new Penguin pacing friend from North Carolina during the race.

Newcomer Reports
At any large Penguin gathering, there are bound to be first-timers. PWC IV was no exception. Canadian newcomers included Marie-Claude Lajoie and Una Beaudry (from Ancienne-Lorette, Que., and Ottawa, respectively). Virginia “Gini” Vance made the trek from Kentucky. And Cathy Pasternak from Virginia decided to join us after attending a Penguin Flight School running camp.

Veteran Penguin Reports
Three legends of the Brigade offer their thoughts of the weekend: Daniel Wellner of New York drove to the conference; Julia Kim of Massachusetts paid another visit to our fair city; and Mary Demattia of Michigan joined us on conference Sunday.

Travellers Reports
This was the first major Penguin encounter outside of the United States, so some Penguins travelled quite a distance. Friends Cheryl Coto of Virginia and Terri Jordan of Florida had an adventure getting to our city, but settled in nicely once they arrived. It was only a short trip over the border for Debra Meier and Shari Hayden of Buffalo, N.Y., but the traffic and border stop made it longer than usual. The travelling man, Todd Byers of California, made it all the way across the continent to join us. And, finally, Carol Schobert of Indiana drove here with Bruce Kochman of Illinois. Ten to 11 hours each way! What dedication! :-)
