Subject: Burlington Good Friday 10 miles Race report
Hello all, It's a beautiful day today. Great weather for the Burlington Runners' Good Friday 10 miles race that took place today. This race fitted perfectly in my schedule that leads up to the Mississauga Half so I signed up for this one instead of the 8K High Park run.
I didn't really consider this a 'real' race since it was more like my weekly long run packaged in another event. It's so much more fun to do your long run with many other people than alone. Every week I need to push myself out of the house for my long run but the race today flew by.
I was equipped with my GPS which was a lot of fun. I had set it up to start a new lap every mile and at the end of every lap it would tell me how long it had taken me to complete that lap\mile. This way I had a good idea if I was slowing down or not. I also had it set up to beep every 11 minutes so I knew it was time for another 1 minute walk and 10 minutes run segment. Of course it also told me my average speed over the whole run and many other numbers. For a numbers person all these things are just great. But most important of all, they allowed me to control my pace.
Getting my bib went pretty fast. Got a Saucony hat which was WAY too small for me. Let's say that's an Easter present for Catherine ;-) To complete the 10 miles we had to run the course twice. There are some tools out that can create a map from the GPS data. So I created the map of course that I attached to this e-mail.

Some people might recognize the area since it was around the corner from where the Rock and Roll marathon took place during the Penguins conference 2 years ago. Talking about Penguins: just before I went home, I bumped into 'our' Buffalo Debbie who also ran this race today.
Overall I was quite happy with my race. As I said the weather was great and lots of friendly people. I am normally not chatty at all during a race but this time I talked a lot more than normal. My goal was run in the pace of a 2 hours half marathon. In the end I was able to be a little bit faster than that which was a pleasant surprise. The results are not up yet but according to 'watch' I completed it in about 1:28.
See you soon,
Richard
