I'm noticing a certain malaise setting in after a race.  The following week I'm having a hard time getting out the door to work out again.  Partly it's a soreness factor, but there is just some general tiredness that is affecting my motivation.  Tuesday
the bike trainer was very hard - difficult to keep my heart rate up - and I only lasted a little over an hour at a very slow speed.  Wednesday was another day where I just couldn't get up the energy to run or bike again.

Thursday was a bit better.  The weather warmed up (relatively) into the upper 40s and there was sunshine.  I decided to skip the treadmill and go out on the Prairie Path.  An added bonus was a full moon, so I ended up doing 10 miles.  Felt really good the
first 8, but the last two were a bit rough.  Friday morning my plantar fasciitis is back with a vengeance, so as I write this I'm rolling a frozen water bottle under both feet.

Week one ended poorly.  Nothing on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.  Saturday it was in the upper 40s again with lots of sunshine, and I spent most of the day installing a DSL line at my daughter's house.  I've been in the computer field since 1985 and it only took me three calls to Technical Support to get it working.  Clueless people and documentation that was incorrect, including the wrong registration logons and passwords.  By the time I was done and back home it was almost 8pm.  Sunday it rained and snowed (Spring?  What Spring?), and I spent part of the afternoon in bed sick.

Week Two had many distractions, including a business conference in Orlando at the end of the week.  My trip included an overbooked hotel, with 2-1/2 hours to get a room, and a drunk colleague who I had to get out of a bar before trouble started.  I was able to get out for about an hour run Wednesday night, up and down the "Hotel Row" outside of Disney.  My Disney marathon was definitely more interesting, albeit longer.  Friday I did a bit of lap swimming in the wave pool at the Typhoon Lagoon water park, in-between 9-foot waves.

My weekend finished with a 5K in Melbourne, where I was visiting my sister.  It was a little race, where you were handed a slip at the finish line where you filled in your name and age, and put in a numbered "finisher" slot.  I had hoped for an under 28:00 PR, but it was around 80 with strong sunshine, and I went out too fast for the first mile (a 8:30 pace).  The heat hit me hard, and I had trouble breathing and started coughing badly.  Slowed down in the next two miles and finished in 28:52.  Not a PR, but I still was able to hold a 9:16 pace.  161/190 Men, and 18/20
in the 45-49 Age Group.  There were a lot of fast dudes there.

Coming up:  I am in the final stage of my "base" triathlon training, and I have never yet hit my weekly training times in all the three disciplines.  I've got to find the time and energy, or it is going to be a very long racing summer.  And I start my new weight training program.
