Well... the past two weeks have seen some ups and downs. I have really been enjoying the few days of dry pavement we have had and have not really enjoyed the other days of snowy icky running. I am most pleased about 2 workouts in the past two weeks my LSD on Feb 10th and my hill workout Feb 14th.
For my LSD it was crappy out. We were experiencing freezing rain and I was not looking forward to going out. However, I dragged my butt outdoors and put in 1 hour and 20 minutes of quality training. I was running on my LSD hill route and blasted my hill circuits off in even faster times then on Feb 3rd. I was pleased. It was such a crappy day that there weren't very many people out (usually there are lots of cross-country skiers at the nature path area along my run). As I ran I counted cars (I was only passed by 26 cars during the whole run) and watched the salt
trucks maintain the highway that runs parallel to my route. It was ridiculous and somewhat surreal. However, I put in 100% for the entire run and was very pleased with the whole thing. For my hill workout I only had to do 2 hills since this was an easy week. Lately I have been noticing that my hill times are a bit slower. Although sometimes there has been ice, wind and traffic that impact my times I was getting worried that I was not progressing. I used the opportunity this easy week offered to really work my hardest intensity for my 2 hills and see what happened. I blasted off 2 fast hills and then set off for a nice cool down run feeling much better.
I just wish all my runs could go as well as these two went. For some reason I think I thrive on crappy conditions. I need to figure out how to tap that energy and do the same when those ideal days come along. If anyone has any hints for how to do this please let me know. I am truly interested.
