Well, in a few short days I take off to the Great White North, ya hosers. I've already gone to the bank to get some of that colorful Canadian money. So what's the deal with all the birds? Kingfisher on the five, doves on the ten, and a loon on the twenty.
This last two weeks have been a bit disappointing, with life still intruding on my training plans. The first week I did get my last long run in, and a brief noon swim. Then having to work 15 hours on Friday, 9 hours on Saturday, and being on call all day Sunday wrecked any training plans. I'm not going to run with my damn pager, and besides, it rained all weekend. Week two started better, trying to get back into a regular workout and cross training schedule. Then swimming on Thursday night I got a bad muscle cramp in my right calf which had me hobbling (and not exercising) Friday and Saturday. At least on Sunday I got a bike long ride in.
Looking back over my race log for the last couple of months, I see a lot of open days. My triathlon training plan has been more miss that hit. During my base phase I never made the required hours for all three disciplines - swimming, bike, and running. Now I'm in the "Intensity" phase, the hours have increased, and I'm still having a hard time coming close to the weekly hours. Oh well, my first triathlon is in three weeks, so we'll see if I've made any improvement. My half Ironman continues to loom in September.
So, am I ready for the Burlington R 'n' R Canada half? Guess I am feeling pretty good. At least my log shows some long runs in there, including 14 miles (5/6), 13 miles (4/28), 12 miles (4/14), and 10 miles (3/28). This week I'll try to get a couple of 4-6 mile runs in, and also some more time on the bike. I don't have any concerns about making the distance, but I do want to do better than my "unofficial" Disney marathon halfway mark, 2:25. Prediction: 2:15. Real Goal: under 2:10. Really, really, happy and unable to walk Sunday night: 1:59:59.
See ya,
